Changes to EV Chargers – Smart Coming Soon

Following the consultation last year and the publication on the 15th December 2021 of the “Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021” – all EV charge points sold or advertised in the UK after 30th June, 2022 will be ‘smart’ and these regulations will be enforced. Installation of non-smart charge points are allowed after this date, so long as they were purchased prior to the cut-off.

For the avoidance of doubt, it will therefore be illegal to sell any non-smart EV Charge points after the 30th June 2022. With the possibility of substantial fines for contravening the legislation.

To support and safeguard our customers C&D will continue to sell non-smart EV Charge Points until 31st March 2022 only, after which we will introduce our new Smart electric vehicle charger.

The C&D domestic smart EV Charge Points will be launched in the summer and in line with the legislation. These new C&D EV Charge Point products will be truly smart which is legally defined as;

  • It is able to send and receive information via a communications network.
  • It is able to respond to signals or other information received by it.
  • At least one user interface is made available to the owner (i.e. Mobile app).
